Privilege theory is such bullshit because for some reason, we all collectively decided to listen to some rich, sheltered white woman in the 80s on her theory that basic human decency is some kind of unearned favor and not what everyone should expect.
“People don’t assume I’m stupid because of my race” YEAH? THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE FOR EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF RACE.
“Store workers don’t follow me around and assume I’m going to steal something” NO ONE SHOULD JUST BE ASSUMED TO BE A CRIMINAL BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE, PEOPLE THINKING YOU’RE A LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN SHOULD BE THE DEFAULT NOT SOME FUCKING “PRIVILEGE”
“I can hold hands with my s/o in public without fear of being harassed” SO YOU JUST WANT PEOPLE TO START YELLING AT EVERY COUPLE WHO HOLDS HANDS NOW?
“I’m generally not afraid the police will assault me” ASSFLASH NEWSHOLE IT’S A COP PROBLEM AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER EXPECT POLICE BRUTALITY. NOT GETTING YOUR FACE BEAT IN SHOULD BE THE STANDARD.
About 90% is just the most basic tenets of human decency that minorities don’t get because of discrimination, the other 9.9 is usually about representation and literally just being a statistical minority, and the last 0.1% is “You disagree with me which actually just proves my point even harder”
